About RIcalibrate
This service is provided free of charge by Reprointelligence www.reprointelligence.com
It allows for precise, TVI-based print curve optimization/calibration for Offset and Flexographic applications.
If you require professional training and support, we offer high-end knowledge transfer at reasonable rates. Simply get in touch with us.
Legend:
- TTVI_50% = Target Tone Value Increase. The wanted dot-gain at 50% TVF
- TTVP-S = Target Tone Value in Print. Standard, ISO 12647-2 compatible target curve from the OPENPS project
- TVP% = Measured Dot Area in Print
- TVF% = Tone Value in File. Also called Setpoint
How to Use It
- FOR CMYK, measure the Dot Area using Murray-Davies formula at the given TVF% values.
- For Orange, Green, Violet, measure using (S)CTV or RLTV. The TTVI_50% is zero for linear OGV calibration.
- For robustness, use M3 (polarized, paper-relative) measurement mode if available.
- Enter the measured values into the "Measured %" fields.
- Read correction values from calibration graphs and/or calibration summary.
- Apply the "+" or "-" deviations to your RIP or curve-manipulation tool.
Tip:
Hover over the interpolated line in the calibration graphs to read correction values at any setpoint.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why is the correction value not the difference between wanted and measured?
A: The correction value must be proportional to the setpoint. A simple difference would overcompensate.
Q: My setpoint values are different from 25, 50, 75. What can I do?
A: Modify the TVF values to match your workflow. You can add or delete setpoints.
Q: Can I print out the calibration curves?
A: Yes. Use Ctrl+P or the print button. Landscape orientation recommended.
Q: What is SCTV?
A: Spot Color Tone Value (ISO 20654). We recommend RLTV from OPENPS for better robustness, or 22% Murray-Davies on OGV.
Q: Why are calibration recommendations linear between points?
A: Linear connections are necessary to achieve the desired smooth curved result. Smoothed recommendations would introduce error.
